Netmore Group, a leading large-scale IoT network operator, today announced the acquisition of Paris-based Actility and its subsidiary Abeeway. Actility is a pioneer in Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) solutions with operations across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Australia. Abeeway is a leader in ultra-low power multi-technology geolocation. This transaction benefits from synergies across various commercial markets. As a result, it solidifies Netmore’s leading position in its key verticals, including utilities, buildings, and smart cities. It also expands its business in the enterprise, industrial, asset tracking, and carrier sectors.
Actility, one of the original developers of the LoRaWAN specification and a founding member of the LoRa Alliance, brings Netmore experience in deploying thousands of LoRaWAN projects across more than 100 countries. In addition, they add partnerships with over 50 LoRaWAN network operators. They also bring a customer base including Tier 1 operators and global utility and manufacturing industry leaders. Currently, Netmore manages over 14 million IoT devices.
Netmore Group CEO Ove Anebygd stated:
“For years, the market has been eager to find a leader capable of driving change in the global LPWAN ecosystem. By combining Actility’s multi-technology integration capabilities with our carrier-grade network expertise, we are building a robust platform for scalable and reliable IoT connectivity solutions.”
“We are delighted to have the Actility team join us and look forward to leveraging their deep expertise and industry insights to significantly enhance our expansion goals.”
Actility CEO Olivier Hersent commented: “Joining Netmore is a transformative milestone for Actility, our customers, and the market as a whole. Our shared commitment to advancing IoT innovation provides us with a unique opportunity to support some of the world’s most advanced IoT solutions. With our strong alignment in values, culture, and service commitments, we can accelerate adoption across industries, helping operators and enterprises fully unlock the potential of the connected ecosystem. Together, we will make LoRaWAN the default infrastructure for large-scale IoT.”
As one of Europe’s largest telecom operators and one of the world’s largest public LoRaWAN network operators, Orange has maintained a decade-long partnership with Actility, dedicated to driving innovation across the enterprise and public sectors. “As a long-term strategic partner of Actility and one of the largest users of the ThingPark platform, we welcome this significant milestone achieved by Actility and Netmore. This acquisition will help Orange continue operating its LoRaWAN-based enterprise and smart region solutions and strengthen our partnerships in delivering IoT projects. We believe this integration is very positive news for the entire European IoT ecosystem,” said Etienne Robert, Head of Unified Communications, Networking and IoT Integration at Orange Business.
Impact on Key Market Areas
The combined portfolio will provide customers with unparalleled deployment flexibility and performance, accelerating the deployment of high-density metering and low-cost sensor projects. It will also reduce total cost of ownership, and provide reliable connectivity in the most challenging environments. Key new features for Netmore include:
- Highly available local LPWAN network infrastructure for regulated or security-sensitive environments.
- Efficient smart metering enabled by native LoRaWAN-based DLMS (Device Language Message Specification).
- A self-contained, all-in-one gateway with a built-in web server and support for direct BACnet/Modbus connectivity leverages the vast LoRaWAN sensor ecosystem to extend building management systems (BMS). In addition, it simplifies building-to-cloud integration.
- LoRaWAN relay capabilities enhance coverage, meeting even the most stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in harsh environments. This brings a revolutionary breakthrough to water metering.
- The ThingPark Exchange (TEX) roaming center enables seamless exchange of sensor data between private and public networks and extends coverage. In addition, it builds an open network roaming ecosystem for Netmore and facilitates collaborations with companies like Orange, KPN, and Swisscom.
- FUOTA: A powerful firmware broadcast and update tool that helps customers meet the requirements of the upcoming EU Cybersecurity Resilience Act (CRA).
Furthermore’s acquisition of Actility integrates a world-leading partner ecosystem. It combines Netmore’s network infrastructure and solutions partners with Actility’s online marketplace and extensive network of channel and solutions providers. This process drives innovation and simplifies the deployment of end-to-end IoT solutions.
