Industry trend|Another major sporting event uses Zebra's RFID solution

2025-02-08

With the rapid development of sports technology, advanced technology is profoundly changing the face of various sports events. Recently, Zebra Technologies played an important role in the East-West Shrine Bowl All-Star College Game, providing real-time data support for rookie players who are about to enter the NFL through its leading RFID tracking technology.

As the longest-running college all-star football game in the United States, the East-West Shrine Bowl attracts the attention of many NFL scouts and national television viewers every year. This year, this highly anticipated event will be held on January 30 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the home of the Dallas Cowboys. In order to further enhance the viewing and evaluation value of the game, Zebra has joined hands with the East-West Shrine Bowl for the fourth time to capture real-time data of players using RFID technology.

Zebra's RFID technology can capture multiple performance indicators including speed, distance traveled, direction, acceleration, etc. in real time through tags attached to players' shoulder pads. This information not only helps scouts and coaches to more effectively evaluate players' performance, but also provides valuable training data for the players themselves. During the game, every run and every pass of the players is accurately recorded, so that their performance can be comprehensively quantified and analyzed.

It is worth mentioning that Zebra's RFID technology has been widely used not only in the field of sports, but also in industries such as healthcare, retail, manufacturing, transportation and logistics, providing strong support for enterprises to improve operational efficiency and decision-making.

In order to better show the performance of players, the East-West Shrine Bowl Performance Tracker came into being. Through this platform, fans and professionals can view detailed performance indicators of players in real time, providing a more comprehensive evaluation of their performance and growth.

Zebra's cooperation with the NFL is also quite bright. As the official real-time positioning solution provider of the NFL, Zebra has provided support for the league's NextGen Stats platform for ten years. Through this cooperation, Zebra's RFID technology has been widely used in every week, every game, and every team of the NFL season. UWB RFID tags are attached to the players' shoulder pads, and real-time location data is transmitted to a series of receivers around the stadium, thereby collecting a number of performance indicators including speed, travel distance, direction and acceleration. The special RFID-tagged football can capture information data about passing and kicking the ball, including speed, rotation, distance and height, etc. This information provides the NFL with rich data support for calculating and analyzing player performance.

Earlier this year, Zebra also launched the "Measure Greatness" initiative, which aims to tell the story of how RFID technology can help improve athletes' performance on the field and how it affects various professionals in the sports industry. As part of this initiative, NFL rookie cornerback TJ Tampa volunteered to report on his experience using UWB technology. He said that the data collected by Zebra during the game is valuable because it helps to increase what he, his coaches and his teammates see on film. For rookie players like him, this data is undoubtedly a valuable resource.

In addition to technical support and data analysis, Zebra is also actively involved in the charity activities of the East-West Shrine Bowl. As part of the exclusive partnership, Zebra will make a charitable donation to Shriner's Children's Hospital. The hospital is dedicated to providing advanced care for patients with orthopedic diseases, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate. Zebra's good deeds not only reflect its social responsibility and commitment, but also coincide with the charitable mission of the East-West Shrine Bowl.
