Industry trend|A software company that processes hundreds of billions of tags per year merges with an RFID company

2024-10-18

Seagull Scientific is a company with deep strength in the field of bartender label printing software. Its BarTender software has been adopted by 250,000 customers in 175 countries, processing more than 100 billion labels each year. Mojix, on the other hand, is an innovative company focusing on inventory management and RFID technology. Through its "ytem" traceability platform, it provides strong support for the real-time management of goods and assets and has unique advantages in inventory management technology. Recently, the two companies announced their merger into Seagull Software.

After the merger, Seagull Software not only inherited the technical advantages of both parties, but also achieved deep integration and innovation of technology on this basis. Through the organic combination of Seagull's bartender label design solution and Mojix's inventory tracking brand, Seagull Software can provide a wider range of solutions for brands that use labels, companies that transport or receive goods. Whether it is barcodes, RFID, or a combination of the two, Seagull Software can provide a seamless traceability method to ensure that every touchpoint in the supply chain can be accurately captured and managed.

Helping catering giants

Among many cooperation cases, the cooperation between Seagull Software and Chipotle is undoubtedly a highlight. Chipotle, a chain giant operating thousands of fast casual restaurants around the world, has extremely high requirements for supply chain transparency, traceability and food safety. It is based on such requirements that Seagull Software, with its Bartender Label Design Software and Mojix's "ytem" traceability platform, has tailored a seamless supply chain solution for Chipotle.

At the beginning of the cooperation, Seagull Software and Chipotle faced the challenge of applying RFID technology in the catering industry. In order to ensure that RFID tags can be accurately and efficiently applied to Chipotle's supply chain, the two parties conducted in-depth discussions and experiments. In the end, they chose to deploy RFID tags at Avery Dennison suppliers and use Bartender Label Design Software to configure, print and encode these tags. Each SKU product is given a unique ID, which enables Chipotle to accurately track every item in its supply chain.

The solution was then deeply integrated with Mojix's "ytem" traceability platform. Every time a product passes a reading point, its location and status will be updated to the platform in real time. Once the goods are delivered to Chipotle's restaurants, employees can quickly confirm the receipt of the goods using a handheld RFID reader and simultaneously update the status of the goods in the software. This process not only greatly improves the accuracy of inventory, but also effectively reduces labor costs.

More importantly, this solution provides Chipotle with unprecedented supply chain transparency. Both management and restaurant staff can understand the inventory status of each location and the freshness of each product in real time. This plays a vital role in ensuring food safety, improving customer satisfaction and optimizing inventory management.

In addition to the above advantages, the cooperation between Haiou Software and Chipotle also demonstrates strong flexibility and adaptability. For some products that have not yet deployed RFID tags, Haiou Software's solution can also provide support. By choosing alternatives to RFID tag reading, such as barcode scanning or manual inventory counting, retailers can still use a single receiving process in the store to handle these products. This hybrid approach not only meets Chipotle's current needs, but also leaves ample room for future expansion and upgrades.

Believe that the future trend is the integration of multiple tags

In addition to RFID technology, Haiou Software also foresees a diversified trend in traceability needs in the future. Cassidy, CEO of Seagull Software, pointed out that in the next few decades, multiple technologies such as QR codes and 2D data matrix codes will be integrated to provide diversified solutions for traceability. At the same time, Seagull Software has also taken into account the needs of companies that have not yet deployed RFID tags, and by providing alternatives to handheld readers, such as barcode scanning or manual inventory counting, it ensures that retailers can use a single receiving process in stores, regardless of whether the goods are RFID-tagged.

Seagull Software is actively working with new customers in the food and retail sectors, and is committed to building it into a multi-tenant cloud platform that can meet the needs of customers at different stages and plug and play into customers' ERP or WMS systems. Cassidy said: "We really think of ourselves as a coordinated or orchestrated multi-tenant cloud platform working for traceability." Guided by this vision, Seagull Software is gradually leading a new era in the field of supply chain visibility and traceability.
