Data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on December 23 showed that as of the end of November, my country's 5G mobile phone users reached 1.002 billion, accounting for 56% of mobile phone users, an increase of 9.4 percentage points from the end of last year. my country's 5G, gigabit optical network, Internet of Things and other network infrastructure construction has been deepened, the scale of connected users has continued to expand, and mobile Internet access traffic has grown rapidly. As of the end of November, the total number of 5G base stations reached 4.191 million, a net increase of 815,000 from the end of last year; the number of Internet broadband access ports nationwide reached 1.2 billion, a net increase of 63.6 million from the end of last year. In addition, telecommunications business revenue has grown steadily. Data show that in the first 11 months of this year, telecommunications business revenue totaled 1,594.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.6%. The total volume of telecommunications business calculated at the same price as last year increased by 10% year-on-year.
In addition, we noticed that just last month (November 26), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and 12 other departments jointly issued the "5G Large-Scale Application "Sailing" Action Upgrade Plan", proposing that by the end of 2027, a development pattern of "universal capabilities, popular applications, and empowerment and inclusiveness" will be established to fully realize 5G large-scale applications.
As a key information infrastructure for the interconnection of all things and data circulation in the digital economy era, 5G has become an important part of developing new quality productivity by promoting the integration and innovation of various digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data with ubiquitous connections. According to the plan, by the end of 2027, there will be 38 5G base stations per 10,000 people, the penetration rate of 5G personal users will exceed 85%, the proportion of 5G network access traffic will exceed 75%, and the number of 5G IoT terminal connections will exceed 100 million.
The plan deploys four major tasks in application, industry, network, and ecology, continuously enhancing the industry's full-chain support, network's full-scenario service capabilities, and ecological multi-level synergy for 5G large-scale applications, and fully promoting 5G to achieve a wider range, deeper level, and higher level of multi-faceted empowerment.
It is reported that the large-scale application of 5G will drive the popularization and application of the new generation of information technology in all aspects and across the entire chain, enable the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries to high-end, intelligent and green, and promote the deep integration of the real economy and the digital economy. In the next step, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will work with relevant departments to systematically promote the work related to the large-scale application of 5G, accelerate the scale growth of 5G applications and effectively improve their quality, and support the modernization of new industrialization and the information and communication industry.
