In recent years, under the background of globalization and increasingly fierce competition in the domestic security market, more and more Chinese security companies have embarked on the journey of going overseas, strategically choosing to explore overseas markets with "many opportunities and large markets" to seek broader development space.

 

However, considering the differences in cultural environment, market demand and other factors in various regions, it will bring resistance to security companies going overseas to a certain extent. Based on this, on September 20, Vision IoT and AliExpress jointly held a special salon for security and the "Enter AliExpress" event.

 

This event aims to help security companies better grasp the new opportunities for the security industry to go overseas, and achieve rapid growth in the cross-border e-commerce B2C overseas business in 2024 with the help of the business model that focuses on growth on the AliExpress platform.

Issue sharing

After the visit, the exchange activity of "Entering AliExpress: Trends and Opportunities in the Overseas Security Market" was officially launched. First, Alibaba Global Development Expert Chen Ze shared his experience on "Analysis of AliExpress's Overseas Security Industry Product Specifications and New Trends". AliExpress is an e-commerce platform of Alibaba Group's AIDC department, with business covering wholesale (ToB) and retail (ToC) sectors. Currently, AliExpress has opened sites in 18 languages, covering more than 200 countries and regions around the world, with more than 305 million overseas consumers. AliExpress's overseas business has grown rapidly, with the number of platform buyers increasing by 45%, the order volume increasing by 60%, and the GMV of gold and silver merchants increasing by 100%. Its strong growth momentum has attracted more and more merchants to settle in.

 

According to Chen Ze, the AliExpress platform has the advantages of one-stop global, stable and fast logistics, stable and guaranteed payment, and multiple modes of merchant settlement (including traditional POP self-operation, semi-hosted self-operation, full hosting, and overseas hosting modes), and has a strong market competitive advantage. Currently, the AliExpress platform also offers a variety of promotional activities, including 5 S-level promotions, A-level promotions, and specific seasonal activities, etc. At the same time, it will also launch customized marketing activities according to different sales countries. In addition, AliExpress also provides merchants with a subsidy of 10 billion yuan for products above 30 US dollars.

 

Then, Chenze introduced AliExpress's overseas hosting business in detail. According to the introduction, AliExpress's overseas hosting is fully operated by the platform, and merchants are only responsible for forward fulfillment and delivery. It is an efficient shipping channel for merchants with goods in overseas warehouses. After joining the overseas hosting, merchants who prepare goods overseas can have an additional sales channel at almost zero cost. At the same time, the platform will help merchants operate and provide exclusive traffic.

Afterwards, Zhimo, Alibaba's global development expert, shared his views on "New opportunities and new models for AliExpress's cross-border e-commerce going overseas". According to the AliExpress platform, the overseas security industry category strategy is mainly reflected in four aspects: First, technology iteration drives new demands, including monitoring (low-power batteries, solar energy, AOV, IPC with screen, 4G, AI-ISP, etc.) and fingerprint locks (dual/triple cameras, dual veins, 3D faces, etc.); second, scene association expands new repurchases; third, subdivided fields open up new tracks (covering pets, babies, bird watching cameras, garden floodlight cameras, etc.); fourth, fortress categories synergize potential categories.

 

According to Zhimo, at present, the 10 billion subsidy is the most important marketing position of AliExpress, helping merchants promote high-quality brands to go overseas. Among them, in the field of security, the number of internationally renowned brands cooperating in the AliExpress 10 billion subsidy project exceeds 10, and the number of mature cross-border brands exceeds 30. Zhimo said that in the past five years, the AE security category has grown rapidly. This category includes 18 secondary categories, with video surveillance accounting for the majority of the market share, and access control smart locks, smart doorbells/alarms, personal protection & labor protection, safes, etc. also occupy a certain market share. The core key markets of the security industry are mainly in five major regions, including the United States, Europe, Brazil, the Middle East, and South Korea.

 

In addition, Zhimo also introduced the opportunity trends of security-video surveillance and smart home AIOT categories. Among them, in terms of video surveillance, its fortress categories include IPC & monitoring packages; the trend of outdoor units with multiple cameras is obvious, and the main indoor models are new molds & AI+; monitoring kits are multifunctional and baby monitoring. The blue ocean categories include battery machines, bird feeders, and light bulb machines; floodlights (garden lights) and endoscopes are newly added. In terms of smart home AIOT, the market growth potential of products such as access control locks, building automation, anti-theft alarms, and video intercoms is relatively large.
