In 2024, according to data from major chip manufacturers like Impinj and NXP, the global RFID industry continues to grow at a high speed, with global UHF RFID tag shipments exceeding 55 billion units and overall market growth surpassing 20%.
While the broader market is still expanding rapidly, China’s RFID industry is experiencing intense internal competition, with companies actively seeking new opportunities—specifically, untapped markets.
Where are these new markets? Are they in overseas markets, RFID adoption by retail giants or logistics companies, or customized demands emerging in specific B2B or government niche scenarios?
In reality, after years of development in the RFID Passive IoT industry, it has become challenging to find entirely new application scenarios. Even overseas markets have long been heavily targeted by RFID companies.
How should we approach the search for new markets? The author believes that RFID companies should consider the following dimensions:
1. Evolving Market Conditions: While most application scenarios have been explored, changes in policies, costs, or demand can alter the commercial logic of RFID solutions in specific industries. For example, early-stage pilot projects by a few companies might evolve into industry-wide standardization, unlocking significant incremental markets.
2. High-Value Niche Markets: Focus on markets with moderate shipment volumes but strong pricing and revenue potential. High-volume scenarios are limited, and even large projects often face price and profit pressures. Instead of competing in saturated markets, exploring customized opportunities could yield better returns.
3. Barriers to Entry: Target markets with entry thresholds, such as overseas expansion (requiring local resources and teams), niche scenarios demanding high technical performance for tags/readers, or certifications/qualifications.
