In a significant development, the Philippine Senate’s Committee on Justice and Human Rights conducted a second public hearing on Wednesday to discuss Senate Bill №159, the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act, proposed by Senator Ejercito.
Ejercito recommends a forward-thinking approach by suggesting the adoption of Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tags to replace the cumbersome front license plates on motorcycles. “RFID prevents license plate numbers from being transferred between vehicles. Moreover, additional information such as the owner’s name or whether the vehicle has an alert tag can be embedded in the RFID,” explained Ejercito.
Encela highlighted the versatility of RFID, noting its capacity to encompass essential motorcycle details, including registration number, license plate, chassis, and engine numbers.
This proactive initiative aligns with global trends in IoT technology, marking a paradigm shift in motorcycle crime prevention. The Senate’s exploration of RFID technology in the context of the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act reflects a commitment to embracing innovative solutions for enhanced security.
