RFID electronic license plates are a modern means of vehicle identification and management using wireless radio frequency identification technology. It is worth noting that in addition to this province and city that has just started bidding, many places across the country are also actively exploring and promoting the application of RFID electronic license plates in the management of electric bicycles. For example, some cities have started the registration of electric bicycles, requiring all electric bicycles to be equipped with RFID electronic license plates before they can be driven on the road; some cities have jointly promoted the construction of electric bicycle intelligent management systems through cooperation between the government and enterprises. According to incomplete statistics, the cities that have used electric bicycle RFID license plates include the following:

Xi'an: The Traffic Police Detachment of the Xi'an Public Security Bureau issued a bidding announcement in July 2024, planning to purchase electric bicycle RFID chip electronic license plates and related management system operation and maintenance services, with a budget of 10 million yuan. This shows that Xi'an is about to or has begun to promote the use of electric bicycle RFID license plates.

Guangzhou: Guangzhou is one of the cities that promoted electric bicycle RFID license plates earlier, and has achieved effective management of electric bicycles through RFID technology.

Qingdao: Qingdao has also achieved remarkable results in promoting electric bicycle RFID license plates, using RFID technology to improve the level of intelligent traffic management.

Qingyuan: Qingyuan City also uses RFID license plates for electric bicycles, providing comprehensive and accurate data support for the management of electric bicycles.

Tianjin: Tianjin City has also promoted RFID license plates for electric bicycles, which has helped the development of smart transportation.

Beijing: The relevant notice issued by the Beijing Municipal Urban Management Committee clearly encourages the promotion and application of smart sensors, electronic tags (QR codes), and electronic chips (RFID) on electric bicycles and batteries. Although the main purpose is to form a standardized, safe and orderly electric bicycle and charging service market, this also lays the foundation for the subsequent use of video, radio frequency video integrated devices and other equipment for non-site law enforcement of electric bicycle traffic management.

Shanghai: Shanghai has organized a special rectification campaign for express delivery and takeaway electric bicycle traffic violations throughout the city, and urged express delivery and takeaway riders to complete the replacement of electronic license plates as soon as possible. This shows that Shanghai is also actively promoting the application of RFID license plates for electric bicycles.

In addition, cities such as Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Zhuji have also begun to promote and apply electronic license plates based on the passive RFID electronic identification standards formulated by the Traffic Management Science Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security on a large scale. These cities have solved the management difficulties of electric bicycles and low-speed electric vehicles through RFID information management, police-insurance linkage and other measures.

 

Advantages of RFID in Electric Bicycle Management

 

More and more places are using RFID electronic license plates for intelligent management of electric bicycles, which is mainly attributed to the multiple advantages of RFID electronic license plates in electric bicycle management. Specifically, it can be divided into the following aspects:

Uniqueness and anti-counterfeiting: Each RFID electronic license plate contains a unique identification code, which is closely bound to the vehicle information and is difficult to forge or copy.
