Industry trend|Hospital beds are in short supply, foreign hospitals use RFID to improve operational efficiency

2024-10-12

In the healthcare field, improving patient discharge efficiency and optimizing bed management processes have always been important challenges faced by hospitals. Traditional discharge and bed management methods often rely on manual operations, which are not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but also prone to errors. However, with the advancement of technology, an innovative solution is quietly changing this situation. RFiD Discovery, a technology company specializing in RFID technology, has launched a solution designed to improve the efficiency of hospital patient discharge and automate bed management processes.

RFiD Discovery's solution targets key challenges in hospitals - discharging patients faster and ensuring that vacant beds are ready for the next patient. This solution is not only low-cost and easy to deploy, but also the first step in a broader RFID patient management solution. Compared with some real-time location systems (RTLS) and RFID-based technologies that are costly and require a lot of infrastructure, RFiD Discovery's approach is more practical and efficient.

The core of the solution is the use of passive UHF RFID wristbands and smart readers. Each admitted patient is given a wristband with their name and ID information printed on it, which also contains an RFID tag printed by a SATORFID printer, which is associated with the patient's unique ID code in the company's software. In this way, the patient's identity and related healthcare and bed allocation data can be automatically captured during discharge.

When the patient is discharged, they go to the front desk, remove the wristband from their wrist and place it in the smart reader. The reader antenna captures the tag ID and forwards the data to the software, which updates the patient's discharge status and bed status. At the same time, the system notifies the cleaning staff that the bed is ready for cleaning and reuse. This process not only eliminates the need for manual data entry, but also ensures real-time updates of bed availability information.

RFiD Discovery's patient discharge management system not only greatly improves the efficiency of bed management, but also provides more accurate data support for hospitals. By reducing the time required to update bed status, the system improves operational efficiency and provides better decision-making basis for hospital management. In addition, it simplifies the patient discharge process, shortens bed turnover time, and enables hospitals to admit new patients faster.

For hospital staff, the introduction of this solution did not change their workflow too much. The only new task is to remove the patient's wristband and put it into the reader device. This simple operation is not only easy to perform, but also greatly reduces the burden of administrative tasks on nurses and medical assistants, allowing them to focus more on patient care.

In addition to the patient discharge management system, RFiD Discovery also provides a wide range of location tracking solutions, including medical equipment and patient flow tracking, inventory management, baby safety, employee safety, and automatic temperature monitoring. Together, these solutions help hospitals cut costs, increase efficiency, and improve patient care.

It is worth mentioning that RFiD Discovery's solutions are also highly flexible and scalable. Hospitals can first adopt one application, such as the patient discharge management system, according to their own needs, and gradually expand to other areas in the future. This gradual expansion approach not only reduces the hospital's investment risk, but also ensures that the solution can match the hospital's actual needs.
