Tageos recently opened its state-of-the-art R&D facility, the Innovation Center of Excellence (ICoE), in Munich, Germany, marking a major step in the company’s RFID and wireless IoT product development. The center is designed to respond to strong customer and market demand and drive the development of the latest products and new applications in UHF, HF & NFC and IoT.
Munich was chosen as the location for this important R&D facility because of the region’s vibrant ecosystem as a technology hub, which provides Tageos with a rich technical resource and innovation environment. The ICoE’s expertise covers a wide range of areas, including specialty antennas for RFID inlays and tags, emerging RF technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and accessories for flexible batteries, sensors and other innovative components. In-depth research in these areas will help Tageos develop more cutting-edge products to meet the evolving needs of customers.
In addition to being a technology innovation center, the ICoE also provides Engineering as a Service (EaaS) capabilities to provide comprehensive support to global customers and partners. This includes designing, manufacturing and testing small batches of end products, as well as project consulting, application engineering, technical process optimization and programming implementation support. This full-service model not only optimizes customers' product requirements technically and commercially, but also provides them with resources for new product prototyping and industrialization.
The establishment of ICoE represents a multi-million Euro investment and further strengthens Tageos' strategic position in the field of RFID and wireless IoT. The center will provide customers and market partners with greater access to Tageos resources, supporting them to quickly achieve their goals, integrate the latest technologies, thereby reducing time to market and gaining competitive advantage.
In supporting customer needs, ICoE provides a comprehensive level of testing and extended support. As more and more industries use RFID technology to solve operational challenges, the demand for different form factors and materials continues to increase. The center provides ultra-thin, flexible, cost-effective and sustainable RFID inlays for smart packaging and smart labels by providing cutting-edge innovations such as printed antennas.
As the majority shareholder of Tageos, Fedrigoni Group's commitment to RFID also reflects its emphasis on innovation. RFID is highly strategic for Fedrigoni as they look to develop their self-adhesive labels and specialty papers business by leveraging every possible synergy. This collaboration not only advances the development of RFID technology, but also brings more innovation opportunities to the industries served by Fedrigoni, such as authentication, brand protection, traceability and customer experience of products and packaging.
